Keep it moving – G Street Fabric Visit

On Tuesday evening a few of us sewing enthusiast from Silver Spring Sewing Sisters got together for a fabric store visit. We made a stop at G Street Fabrics in Rockville, MD. We looked at interfacing, woven & non-woven. We looked at linings, dry-clean only and machine washable. We looked at a touched silk crepe, wool crepe and bridal satin fabrics. We discussed what linings and interfacing were appropriate for certain types of fabrics and we talked about purchasing remnants. We took about 15 minutes to look through pattern books and find out about all the fabulous outfits that can be made. Then we looked at the notions where we found buttons, elastic, snaps and many other necessary supplies. In the end the our class began to feel more comfortable about coming to the fabric store and finding what they need to complete their projects. Our next visit will be to Joann’s fabrics in Columbia next month. We are even thinking about planning a trip out west where we can do some major damage in the fabric district. More to come on our sewing excursions in later blog posts.
