Guest Blogger: Shopping with a purpose

I’m so excited to bring to you a guest blog post from my good friend and shopping buddy Chris P. Chris was so kind as to fill in and write substantive blog post from the charitable perspective. I truly appreciate her filling in for me as I attempt to back fill the blog on the other great events of DC Fashion Week. Whats even better is I get to post more pics from the evening. Enjoy

Guest Blog Post: Red Girl n DC:

Last night’s District Sample Sale (DSS) was amazing!  The room was filled with many fashion savvy women, delectable hors d’oeuvres, fabulous cocktails, and incredible entertainment, all while shopping for GREAT cause! DSS is an ALL volunteer organization that brings together wonderful and adorable High-End Boutiques from the area to support a charity of choice.  The best part of this annual event is that 100% of the proceeds go to a very well deserving cause.  DSS shares their giving by choosing a different charity each year.  This year’s charity of choice was WEAVE (Washington Empowered Against Violence).   WEAVE engages the metropolitan Washington DC community to eliminate partner abuse and other forms of gender-based violence through empowering, innovative and holistic services.  As a true fashionista with a most humble spirit I think this is an incredibly worthy cause for women of influence to get behind in the DMV!  Not to mention, it provides a GREAT vehicle to support a fantastic cause and do what women love most!  Shop!

Now I do have to admit, it was not exactly the perfect venue for the “Bargain Shopper,” albeit there were certainly plenty of nice deals and trendy pieces for the more “High End Fashionista,” nevertheless it was absolutely a great way for one to spend their time.  And a small price to pay for those of us who can’t resist the need to fill our closet with wonderful things that separate us, girls from boys; truly making us “Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice!”  DSS offered cute and stylish finds from boutiques across the District, including Boutiques like Imagine, Lettie Gooch, Caramel, Ginger, and the Shoe Hive to name a few!

Last night, a plethora of fashion hungry women turned out in true D.C. flare helping to raise over 240K to support charity since the organizations’ conception!  Now that is AMAZING!  It was definitely an enjoyable night, perhaps not “Sew Frugal,” but I will be so bold as to say we ALL left more stylish, more educated, more charitable, and hopefully more aware of gender-based violence in D.C.  Now let’s do the work to make a difference!

DSS I offer your organization a humble thank you for providing women in the DMV an amazing opportunity to be more stylish and more giving! Job well done!
