Creating Cards for the Troops

A couple of weeks back my friend Chris sent around an email to bunch of friends regarding a volunteer opportunity with Operation Write Home. She invited us to attend a card making party to make cards for the troops. Operation Write Home  is about supporting our nation’s armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. You don’t need to sign up or do anything special except pick up some card making supplies, organize a group of friends and spend the day being creative and doing good for those defending our country. There are however a few guidelines you must follow but other than that you are on your own. Check out the website and get started. This is great activity for girl scout troops, book clubs, crafting groups etc. Most supplies you can find on sale at Michael’s and or Joann’s Fabrics.

We had a great time spending a Sunday afternoon chit chatting, eating and designing these cards. Our aim was to complete 150 cards. We made it half way through in about 4 hours. We plan to finish up next weekend and get them shipped off in time for the holidays.
